Margaret is the author of the women’s fiction novels How To Be an American Housewife, The Care of Handling Roses with Thorns, Sisters of Heart and Snow, and The Tale of The Warrior Geisha (Putnam). She is also the author of the fantasy series Momotaro: Xander and The Lost Island of Monsters, as well as Momotaro: Xander and The Dream Thief (Disney-Hyperion) and the author of the contemporary realistic novel, Summer of a Thousand Pies (Balzer + Bray, April 2019), which is set in Julian, CA. Half Japanese, she frequently writes about themes of race and class. She is the recipient of the American Library Association’s Literary Tastes Award for Best Women’s Fiction, as well as the Asian/Pacific Librarian’s Association Honor Award for Children’s Literature. Momotaro was optioned by Fox Animation for adaptation into a feature film. She is a PitchWars mentor, a program helping new authors finds agents.
