Class Description

“Hybrid” writing is becoming part of mainstream literature. This lively class will explore unusual, interesting forms of writing–ideal for poetry writers, but also fun for those who prefer prose. Each week will focus on one experimental form; the four forms include The Duplex Poem, Erasure, Haibun, and The Burning Haibun. Craft lessons will introduce each specific form, and we will read aloud and discuss several examples. Prompts will allow students to practice and experiment with that week’s form, and sharing will be encouraged but not required. Additionally, each class will include opportunities and considerations for publication submission. Classes may be purchased individually or as a group. (Note: There is a special discount for the full package!) Ideal for anyone looking for a safe, supportive environment to try on new forms and expand one’s writing!

Order of Topics:
  • July 13: Week One: The Duplex poem
  • July 20: Week Two: Erasure
  • July 27: Week Three: Haibun
  • August 3: Week Four: The Burning Haibun
