YA fiction leads with voice: the narrative voice of the novel, as well as each character’s unique sound, style, and perspective, from protagonist to supporting cast. Whatever the plot, YA books embrace the keen energy of coming of age and draw the reader into an intimate reading experience. In this workshop, designed for beginners as well as seasoned writers, we’ll explore what it takes to establish the voice and mood of your story.
In a community-building environment, we’ll:
Identify the promise you’ll make to your reader, and hone in on how to keep it.
Connect to the texture of the experience you want to create on the page.
And, most importantly:
Write in your YA voice. Remembering back to your own life at the age of your characters, we’ll work on capturing a voice that is honest and authentic.
