First Draft Push
Note: Though this class is offered as part of the Certificate in Memoir Writing, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll.
First Draft Push: How to Integrate all the Skill Sets of Structure, Character Arc, Voice and Scene Writing (and Book Proposal)
In this class we will revisit the main building blocks of your memoir as well as hone the essential skill sets needed to complete your first draft. We will pay special attention to your structure, character arc and scene writing. We will also cover How to Write a Book Proposal in the last session of the class. Since the former sessions work on learning individual skill sets (think one melody at a time), this class is vital to assist the writer in learning how to use all of the skill sets at once for a first draft (think symphony).
Class structure: Except for the first class, the first hour will be lecture and the second hour will be read and critique where participants can workshop their material or class assignments.
Tone of class: We strive to create a supportive, nurturing environment where participants feel encouraged to share, risk and connect to their most creative self.
We will be using the textbook 7 Essential Writing Tools, which is available for purchase on the first day of class for $10 or on Amazon/Kindle.
If you buy all five of the workshops in the certificate separately, the total cost amounts to $1,296. If you purchase all five of them as a package, you will receive a 20% discount and will only pay a total of $1,036. This discount is only good for members.
Please note that if you enroll in the full certificate, you will automatically receive the individual course links throughout the year. If you do not plan to take all courses within the year, please contact us to ensure that a course credit is applied to your account.
Please note that you will receive your Zoom link via email 24 hours before the start of this class. If you enroll in this class less than 24 hours before it begins, please either send us a message or email us at email@example.com to request your link.
