Writing Residencies to Apply for By the End of the Year

We’re already more than halfway through 2022 (somehow), but it’s not too late to jump on some amazing residency opportunities! Many arts centers and foundations had to press pause on their residency activities due to the events and effects of the pandemic. But a great number have begun to introduce new programs for the remaining months of this year, 2023, and beyond! Check out the list below detailing five residency application opportunities you should check out. Each of the websites are listed to take you directly to the applications and deadlines–you still have time!



National Parks Art Foundation


Ever dreamed of living in a national park, responsible only for producing your art? How about in Hawai’i, surrounded by volcanoes? Or in the heat and enchantment of New Mexico? These residencies, among other amazing location options, might be for you.

If you’re the kind of writer that requires absolute peace, quiet, and zero distractions, then you’ll most likely enjoy this residency’s offer of self-guided writing time, the unfettered mountains of North Georgia, and the seclusion of a private studio.

 Roger’s Art Loft Residency


Get ahead of the game and apply for this residency’s 2024 opportunities! Accepted artists get to live in an artist’s loft/private studio in downtown Las Vegas, specifically the Lucy complex, a highly literary area prime for community engagement.

Omi International Arts Center


This unique center for the arts currently has three applications open. One is labeled for “Architecture,” another more broadly for “Artists,” and the third for (last but not least) “Writers”! Each of these programs’ locations and emphases vary, but all are ready and available for you to explore!

Vermont Studio Center


This residency offers an escape to historic Johnson, Vermont, providing its residents with lodging, a variety of events from writers and artists around the world, and “an inclusive, international community.” They also offer online events. Their deadline is fast approaching!
